Sue Heller

Sue Heller is a retired art educator with more than 30 years of experience. Her emphasis has always been “speaking through the arts.” She feels that students with special needs and adultsin crisis who might not other wise be able to learn or express themselves can find a way to “converse” through the creative process. This belief has always been motivation for professional and volunteer work. In line with this,Sue has been listed in Who’s Who in American Teachers,has been honored twice as “Teacher of the Year” at her school in Palm Beach County, presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Teaching by The Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise, nominated for Soroptimists’ Woman Of Distinction, selected to represent Place of Hope Rinker Campus for Junior League’s Woman Volunteer of the Year, chosen as Volunteer of the Year for Service at Place of Hope Rinker Campus and more. As an Angel Mom and aliais on for the Extended Foster Care Girls Cottage at Place of Hope’s Rinker Campus, Sue serves on the Leadership board, acts as a mentor and is always available to assist, brainstorm and encourage the residents. She serves on the committees for both of POH’s major fundraisers, uses her artistic ability to create auction items and participates in many of the on and off campus events. Mrs.Heller serves in many other ways. She works with those in need at Jim Batmasian’s “Changing Lives” program once a week by offering the opportunity to open communication while creating a drawing or painting and assisting with other needs. She has been involved with “Conversations on Canvas” and Mental Health “First Aid” training. Volunteering her time to give private art lessons to special needs youth and others has been important to her. She serves as member of the Board of the Unicorn Foundation, a committee member for The Alzheimer’s Brain Bowl and numerous other gala and event committees.
